Its 5 am and we are leaving Nogales Sonora to drive for 11 hours until we get to Mesa Colorado, a small village in the Sierra Madre Occidental in the mountains of Sonora, there we prepare for a 5 hour hike up higher in order to get to Akinavo, which a village also in the mountains that has no road, the only way to get there is through the steep mountains. I’m there with all this excitement for meeting the people, the culture. On our way there Oscar, my guide at that time tells me stories about his experiences in the mountains, I would get even more excited with his stories. When I heard about this place, Akinavo I was drawn to the fact that people had to walk suck a long way to get there, I didn’t take this as a challenge but I wanted to visit Akinavo because they lacked so much of the daily essentials I really wanted to help. I felt truly blessed as I got there and saw the conditions that they lived in, and I was really surprised when I arrived they had a such a grateful attitude towards us there the village pastor and his wife waited for us. As we arrived, they offered us the food that they had and the only chairs that they possessed. The place was really neat and clean, they house is made of mud and the floors were just dirt, but they were so neatly broomed. Beside the small house there was a small kitchen made with branches and mud but it was clean. I though what a clean culture, but as we spent time there we visited other homes and realized that other house were not as neat, it was then that I realized that when someones life changed because of God it changes even the physical area. This village is so special because even with their difficulties, even though they have to walk long distances just to get their basic needs they are still a community that somehow searches for the Lord.
